چکیده

Phaseeld models are attractive for numerical simulation of solidi cation. The derivation ensures that moving boundaries in the sharp interface formulation are replaced by thin regions of width given implicitly by the solution. The need to explicitly track the location of geometrically complex solid-liquid interfaces is eliminated. The sharp interface problem is formally recovered as the di use interface thickness ! 0. Karma and Rappel have presented an asymptotic analysis which allows certain restrictions on to be relaxed by adding a small correction to a parameter in the phaseeld equations [A. Karma and W.-J. Rappel, Phys. Rev. E 53 R3017 (1996)]. As a consequence computation can be performed on smaller grids without loss of accuracy in the interface conditions. This is of especial importance at low under-

UNIQUENESS OF SOLUTION FOR A CLASS OF STEFAN PROBLEMS

This paper deals with a theoretical mathematical analysis of one-dimensional solidification problem, in which kinetic undercooling is incorporated into the This temperature condition at the interface. A model problem with nonlinear kinetic law is considered. We prove a local result intimate for the uniqueness of solution of the corresponding free boundary problem.

The Prediction of Tip Radius During Rapid Dendritic Growth Under Coupled Thermo - Solutal Control : What Value

A phase-field model for dendritic growth under coupled thermo-solutal control model is presented. Constructed in the quantitatively valid thin-interface limit the model uses advanced numerical techniques such as mesh adaptivity, multigrid and implicit time-stepping to solve the non-isothermal alloy solidification problem for materials parameters that are realistic for metals. Using this model w...

Phase-field simulations of velocity selection in rapidly solidified binary alloys.

Time-dependent simulations of two-dimensional isothermal Ni-Cu dendrites are simulated using a phase-field model solved with a finite-difference adaptive mesh refinement technique. Dendrite tip velocity selection is examined and found to exhibit a transition between two markedly different regimes as undercooling is increased. At low undercooling, the dendrite tip growth rate is consistent with ...

Planar Solidification from Undercooled Melt: An Approximation of a Dilute Binary Alloy for a Phase-field Model

Abstract. Planar solidification from an undercooled melt has been considered using the phase-field model. The solute and the phase fields have been found in the limit of small impurity concentration. These solutions in the limit of vanishing velocity of the interface motion give the equilibrium partition coefficient and the liquidus slope. Asymptotic expansions for the solute and for the phase ...

An adaptive, fully implicit multigrid phase-field model for the quantitative simulation of non-isothermal binary alloy solidification

Using state-of-the-art numerical techniques, such as mesh adaptivity, implicit time-stepping and a non-linear multi-grid solver, the phase-field equations for the non-isothermal solidification of a dilute binary alloy have been solved. Using the quantitative, thin-interface formulation of the problem we have found that at high Lewis number a minimum in the dendrite tip radius is predicted with ...
